Metro Vancouver’s north shore refers to the District of North Vancouver, the City of North Vancouver and the District Municipality of West Vancouver – an area bordered by the sea to the west, south and east and by the Coast Mountains to the north. Two road bridges provide access to the north shore from Vancouver and its suburbs while a Seabus offers pedestrians transportation to downtown Vancouver from North Vancouver’s Lonsdale Quay. Highway 99 winds its way across the north shore, providing access to Squamish, Whistler and the BC Interior. At the northern end of West Vancouver, ferries out of Horseshoe Bay transport passengers and vehicles to Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.
North Shore residents find it easy to enjoy nature. Hiking and bike trails abound across the region while numerous parks and three ski hills offer recreational opportunities just minutes away. Tourists and residents can also enjoy the privately operated Capilano Suspension Bridge and the Lynn Canyon suspension bridge for their spectacular views.
Stores, restaurants and all the amenities of city living are close at hand in North Vancouver’s Lonsdale and West Vancouver’s Ambleside districts while views of the beach, Howe Sound, Indian Arm and Burrard Inlet abound. Often called “Vancouver’s Playground”, the north shore reminds residents and tourists alike how many recreational activities are available at hand.
